How is Fallen? It has been some time?

Thank you for asking. Fallen hasn't had her surgery yet. The day it was scheduled was bitter cold and so Deb and I discussed it and decided to wait. I had hoped she could remove the wing last week but she had a wildlife advocasy rally she had to attend and so we will wait until after the holliday.
Deb is only at the clinic 2 times a week and so the days she is there get booked quickly.

Finally...Fallen will have her surgery this Saturday morning and I am thrilled for her. It's really been bothering me that she has had to wait. The waiting was not in vain though...

Several weeks ago, she mated with Blue the fancy Danish Pigeon that is knock out gorgeous. She had her pick of Blue or Cutie Pie, as both were vying for her attention but in the end it was Blue. I was rooting for Cutie Pie the one footed roller.
They are an odd couple...Fallen and Blue. After she recovers, it will be much easier for Blue to chase Fallen to the nest. A special cage has arrived with a door low to the floor so she will be able to get out and walk around.

Charis & Fallen.............My thoughts and prayers are with you both for a successful surgery in the morning. I know how long you have both waited for this. Fallen will finally have the quality of live she deserves.

The surgery is over. It didn't take long at all and I stayed right there, watching the whole thing.
Fallen did really well. She was up within seconds after the surgery and wing slapped Deb with her good wing. She was placed in an incubator and within 5 minutes in the incubator, she was on her feet and trying to step over the portion of her wing that had been in her way and caused her to trip and fall.
It looks like some flights may still grow in that could still bother her by getting in her way. If that's the case, more of the wing will need to be removed. The goal is to leave a much as possible for balance.
She's had an injection of baytril and I have been instructed to continue the baytril for 1 week. She aslo was given metacam for pain and she can have more tomorrow at the same time. After that, she will not be on pain medicine.
I'm so glad it's over.

I'm so glad to hear all went well.

I'm so glad that the surgery went well..

I guess as she recovers she will have to learn to walk normally again without tripping or falling over the wing that has been removed.

I'll take a picture after she is feeling better and I can clean her up some. She has some dried blood on her feathers and I'd just as soon not post that.

This front view isn't too gorey but it is a bit blurey. This picture was taken right after we arrived home and the metacam had really taken effect.

Fallen looks good.
I like her little 'bed'.

At first glance, seeing her in her seed dish reminded me of when Lucy was in the barrel stomping the grapes
in one of the I Love Lucy episodes. :That\\\'s so f
