Like I said, I got home later today, and had to clean the cages and all so didn't have much time to spy on them. Tomorrow I will have more time. Virgil does like to throw his seed. I just cleaned this up, and put in fresh seed. Look at the fun he has with it. Actually, I added a bit of peanuts to the mix, and he picked them out first. LOL. Put them to bed early which is what I'm going to do tonight. He spends a lot of time with the mirror. Maybe I should remove it just for a while and see what he does. Maybe tomorrow when I get home. And before I clean the cages, I'll put a little bath in and see what they do. I did take the straw out of the nest bowls. What a mess all over the dining room. With 4 birds in the house right now, that was pushing me over the edge. I replaced it with cut up paper towels under their little wash cloth. They seem fine with it. And I keep one of those UVA lights over the cages for most of the day.

Looks like a pretty cushy set up, Owl.

I like Virgil. He's a cute little bird. He doesn't like being handled, but doesn't really put up that much of a fight. He just settles down in a short time. At least he likes chopped peanuts, so that gives me a little leverage. He likes the safflower seed too. Cricket likes them too. Aries hasn't even tried them yet.

I had a short today today at work, so when I got home, before cleaning the cages, I set up a little bath dish for Cricket who just loves the water, and can't stay out of her water dish. I thought it might scare her as it is something new to her. Hard to find a dish that is deep enough, sturdy enough, and will not tip but that will fit through the cage door. This was the best I have been able to come up with so far, but am still looking. It's actually a solar sipper for outside birds. It took her about 3 minutes to throw caution to the wind and jump in. Virgil seemed very interested in this new activity, but couldn't get at it, so instead, he turned to his hedgehog and took out his aggressions on him with total abandon. Poor hedgehog! Cricket just sat there watching him like Queen of the Pool. When she was finished with her looooong soak, I washed the bowl and put it in Virgils cage. He immediately ran over to the guy in his mirror for a conference on whether or not he should dare do such a frivolous thing as to take a bath in broad daylight! Apparently, the guy in the mirror thought NOT! Virgil wouldn't go anywhere near it. He jumped on his shelf and stared at it as though it were an alien being from Mars.






Oh well.............................Tomorrows another day.

Just like Virgil to throw his seed EVERYWHERE and only pick out his favorites from the mix! You would think that he always had such an abundance to eat, that he could pick and choose.

When I got home, I was very busy so didn't get any pictures. Little Virgil was camped out next to the side of the cage that faces Crickets, And she was at times laying on her shelf, and at other times standing in the middle of her cage watching Virgil. They were both fairly quiet. I think they were tired out from yesterday. Didn't hear him beating up the guy in the mirror, or his hedgehog. I have no idea what the happenings of the earlier part of the day were though. I'll see what tomorrow brings. I think the only thing he attacked was me when I moved his hedgehog while cleaning. Of course, after Aries attacks, Virgils were like love bites. Aries stocks me when out of the cage, and bites. Can't tell you how fond he is making me of him.

I know. LOL. You would think that he has always been a spoiled little one. He's cute, but still a bit cautious around me. Cricket was the same way, but now she stands her ground and defends her box or cage to me. That's good. She is no longer scared of me. Now she is just a fresh normal little Pij. He will get used to me too. It takes a lot of time for a grown feral to learn to trust. Sometimes, all we ever get is that they will tolerate us. But that is okay too. He's really a cute little Pij. I truly hope that they do get together, but I can tell you one thing................................I am not looking forward to the day that I have to switch out their eggs! The two of them would be a force to be reckoned with!

You'll need to wear thick gloves...that or...make the other Owl in the family switch them out.

Ya know. That's a great idea. Gives me leverage. If he is grouchy, I'll tell him that it is his turn to switch the eggs out! That'll make him be good. I think he's afraid of Aries. I know my neighbor who comes over a lot is.

When I got home today, Virgil was in his cage, calling to Cricket, and she did go over to where she could see him, bowed her head and little and coo'd back at him.

AH....

In talking with Charis, we have decided that maybe tomorrow would be a good time to put the two birds in a room together, out of the cages, and see what happens. Hope it isn't too early. I'll be standing by with camera in hand. Wish me luck in getting some good pictures!
