NEW MEANING TO THE PHRASE...NO ROOM IN THE INN

All birds are in different stages of recovery from hawk strikes ... one very ill chicken arrived on Monday. Other arrivals are in the pigeon room. I am full to capacity and truely over-whelmed.

It's a decal to keep the pigeons from flying into the window. It works!

I can totally relate Charis..........As you know I've had 9 non-releasables in the house for months now. I love your big island kitchen table ......at least you can spread them out. I have them stacked 2 and 3 high in my place.

Oh Charis - I am sending you tons of healing power and a 1000 prayers. BUT please take care of yourself. I can remember that you told me that you have become very sick once after you had too much on your plate.
Who is going to take care if you cannot any more?

I know very well how hard it is to say "no" but somethimes it is essential. There MUST be people around you who can take some off you!!!! Ask them!

I know!

I've just had the poor little chicken euthanized. It was not a decision I made lightly but I do think that in this case, the hardest thing to do was the most loving.
I hope her spot on the kitchen island doesn't fill up any time soon.

I know how you must feel Charis I know you didn't make this decision lightly, but in some cases there is no other alternative.

This past week has been especially intense, caring for the precious little hen. She was a black Cochin, down to 1 pound when I weighed her this morning.
I haven't slept well since she arrived on Monday...getting up during the night to check on her.
It was just too late, by the time I got her as she hadn't eaten in days. Sub-Q fluids perked her up for a while but all of her organs had started to shut down and there was just no bringing her back.
The sad part is that it didn't need to end this way.

So sorry Charis

I know you did your best.......but it is never an easy decision to make.

Life is so very unfair at times.

I'm sorry about the poor little chicken. Don't think you'll be using your island any time soon though. It's usually my dining room table that gets the use.

I'm so sorry it was too late for the little chicken, Charis. It's heartbreaking when there's nothing else you can do except to save them further suffering.
Positive healing thoughts keep coming for the others, and please look after yourself.

I am sorry to hear that she has crossed the rainbow bridge. God Bless you for trying and thank you for all that you did to help her.

Poor little girl being a heavy breed of chicken her neglect must have taken quite awhile.
At lesat she was with someone who cared about her when the time came.

I wish she had gotten the chicken to you sooner, when it could still be helped. I will never in my wildest dreams, understand how someone who claims to care about their birds, can just sit by and watch a bird with a sickness or disease, or any other malady, and just watch it getting worse and worse, and yet do nothing about it. That person just doesn't care. Put your money with your mouth is. Easy to talk about caring.......................another thing to step up and do the right thing. Actions speak louder than words in my humble opinion.

I will add that this would apply to a person who does know better, and not someone who is uninformed and still learning. We have all been there at one time.

I've spent a good part of the day, trying to trap a very sick pigeon at the drive through coffee where I feed a feral flock on the weekends. Apparently she has been up against the little drive through for three days and flies off at night. They don't know where she roosts.
She isn't eating and has the canker pose. I feel very sorry for her and know I can help if we can trap her.
It's bitterly cold and I doubt she will survive the night if we don't get her.
