| I just got back and no I wasn't. She was no where to be found. I spent nearly an hour and a half down there...driving around, walking and looking behind bushes....nothing. It's not as cold as yesterday, temperature wise, but the wind is blowing more than yesterday and it feels just as cold. The flock was there this morning when I arrived but wind gusts, blowing the awning on the coffee drive through, sent them flying.
You know how one thing can lead to another? Yesterday, Amanda, that owns the coffee place, told me about a homeless man that lives in the area with a big black dog. Apparently, the man is mentally ill and does okay when on his meds but lately, he hasn't been taking them. His tent was stolen and some of his other possessions and he takes it out on the poor dog. He only feeds him donuts, rodents and road kill. The dog is ill. This morning I spotted him leaving a loading dock where they had spent the night. The man was on a bike and pulling the poor dog. The dog acted weak and stopped. The man hit him and so the dog went on. I tried to get a picture of it but just missed the incident. Normally, I wouldn't take an animal way from a homeless person as my experience is that most take good care of their animals ... the animal companion is all they've got. This is different though.

| Well if the man with the dog is normally in that area, then can you report him? Around here, the MSPCA would be out to investigate. That poor dog needs to be gotten away from him. | |

| He had hot him just seconds before. I missed the shot getting my camera. I'm thinking of offering the man cash for the dog. I don't have cash to offer him but I do know of people here that I think will contribute to a dog rescue. Any thoughts? | |

Here...they must be caught in the act of abusing. It needs to be documented. That's why I was trying to get a picture.

| You could try offering money. I hadn't thought of that. But I wonder how much it would take? Why don't you ask him and let us know? Maybe some could pitch in or something. | |

| I need to think about it some. It may be that Amanda would be the one to ask as she gives the guy free coffee. She tried feeding the dog, some dog food but he wouldn't eat it. I have left her a message a little while ago. | |

| Money is the best way. Working downtown, I have seen this many times. I have offered money to a homeless person in exchange for their dog. In most cases, $20 is all it takes.
They should not let homeless people have own animals

| Years ago, I bought a couple of poodles from a homeles scouple down town for $20.. Ten years ago, it took $700. to buy a cockatoo form a homeless couple. I guess I can start at $20 and see where that goes. | |

| I know. Not fair really. Sad that just anyone can own a live animal. | |

| Charis..........This story is breaking my heart. I don't know what's worse............the poor sick bird, that now is missing or the poor dog that is being abused by the mentally ill homeless man. I think your idea of having the worman who owns the coffee shop approach him about the dog is the best approach. If he is mentally ill, he might not take well to a stranger......you might put yourself in harms way. You can never predict how a mentally deranged person will react. The woman who gives him free coffee is someone he knows and trusts. Please be careful Louise | |

| Since my last post, I have learned that the dog is only 11 months old. She is a Great Dane. Apparently he has had Pit Bulls in the past, but they always get stolen. | |

Charis do you have a paypal account? I would like to send $30.00 to add to your $$$ tp help get that poor dog away from him! Heck if you were in closer I'd give her a home too!

It's real sad. It makes no difference to me if a person is homeless or lives the life of luxury, if an animal in their possession is being mistreated/abused it needs to be taken from the person.

| Robin...I do. My Paypal is my email address but wait and let's see if I can strike a deal first. I'm going to drive down there right now and see if they are staying were they did last night.
Robin...if you moved to Oregon rather than northern Wisconsin, it would be easier for me to get her to you.

| There are a lot of free ads for animals. Some Russian fellow gave this guy the dog.
I'm going back in a hour with my niece and try to buy the dog.

| I have a plan. I've found a guy that will try to buy her tonight. I'm going to go first and see if I can find them. If I can, I'll call him and he will come down. I'll let you know. | |
