| The cops aren't going to bother chasing him down, unless they have to. Like if he committed a crime or something. Just the fact that he uses drugs isn't enough to make them spend their time looking for him. They don't waste their time on something like that. I think he'll show up again. If he got his check then he is probably holed up somewhere with a new supply of drugs. Isn't it nice to know where our tax dollars go? | |

* No, they aren't going to go chase him down. I didn't say they should. But if a report were filed that he was seen hitting his dog and were given a description and locations of where he's seen most often then they could at least be on the lookout while patrolling the streets. At any rate, I will continue to think the most positive thoughts for that poor dog.

All I was saying is that the cops don't care if he does drugs, or if he hits his dog. They don't want to be bothered with this stuff. They tell you to call animal control. And animal control has already received complaints about the guy hitting his dog. No one really cares. Going to the authorities is pointless. Animal control can take the dog from him, however they work limited hours, and are covering several cities. If he is spotted, then it is really hard to get them there in time.

| It's a crying shame that the police up there have no regard for abused animals. | |

| It's like that everywhere. Do you think they are any different where you are? I'm sure there are some who do care, but it just isn't their job. They will send you to animal control, who will get there when they can. | |

Yes, I do, Jay. We have a sheriff that doesn't take kindly to animal abuse and has done something about it. MASH (MCSO Animal Safe Haven

| Well then you are very lucky there, and the exception. Most places, they just push it off on animal control. Too busy. | |

* Yes we are. The animals that are abused/neglected/ tossed to the streets, etc., and have no voice are the true winners of this program. The sad part is, we shouldn't be the exception. If one man from the 5th largest city in the US can implement such a program, there are hundreds of cities that could do the same. And not only are the animals removed from the abuse, in many cases the owners are prosecuted. A win/win situation.

| Charis, I love the pictures. Your yard is so pretty. The little bird sure looked happy to be free. I hope he/she does well out there. I wouldn't be surprised if he came back to sleep or for a snack. Keep a look out for him. | |

I will leave the cage on the table until after dark...just in case. I do think the pigeon is a hen and probably missing her mate. On another note...nearly 2 years ago, Landy, who lives near Seattle, took most of my pigeons. The past summer, she gave them the freedom to fly free and return to her loft. Sadly...two birds did not return. Recently, Landy started a book, with pictures of all the birds, a description of how they came to me and a picture of each bird's mate. I asked her how the banded homer is doing and she told me she didn't know what bird I was talking about...she didn't have a banded homer. I recalled that late last summer, a banded homer showed up here and tried to get inside the pigeon room. The hatch was long gone and so I tried to catch the bird. She seemed to know me and I could get close but not close enough to catch her. I think now, that was the homer I took to Landy. Anyway...I just saw her. Again...she tried to get inside. She's okay and living with the feral flock. I am so relieved.

| Awwwwwwww. I think I'd have to fix up a way for her to get in. I'm glad she's okay. Probably looking for a nice warm place to stay for the nite, and remembers how great it was at your little Pij. bed and breakfast. LOL. | |

| Love the photos Charis I too hope that she stays safe & can find her mate. I agree with Jay about leaving an opening for the homer to get in for the night. S/he must trust you to have come back to the safety of h/his former home. | |

| How wonderful that your patient has recovered so well, and was able to fly free again! I love the photos, too -- your garden looks so pretty! So the homer came home... clever bird! It's the most amazing feeling, to see a friend that was missing for a while, and be reassured that he's well and glad to be home... | |

| Earlier in the week, while my friend was still here, I received a call from a man that had rescued a pigeon from a cat three weeks before. He told me the pigeon had a broken wing and was missing an eye as a result of the attack. Today I went and looked at her and sure enough, she is blind in one eye and will never fly again. They have taken very good care of her and she is not thin at all. I did bring her home as they are not equipped to care for her long term. I've named her Anna after their charming teenage daughter that loves her so much and helped care for her. | |

One out & one to take her place At least it sounds like this poor dear is in good health, which is a huge plus in my book! Don't forget to post a photo of sweet Anna
