Found hurt Pigeon, now what?

This morning I was taking a friend home and saw a pigeon in the middle of the road sitting there and not even moving when cars passed it. I'm a huge animal lover and just couldn't leave it, knowing it was definitely in danger of being hit.

I pulled up next to it, put on my flashers and got out to get him/her. Obviously it was really scared and ran under my car. Thankfully I was able to get it (in the midst of a lot of angry drivers!) and bring it home.

I have put it in a box with soft towels, water and crushed up wheat crackers to keep it somewhat confined so that it can't hurt itself. I think it's leg is broken?

With it being the holiday weekend (and a Sunday!) I've not been able to find a vet that is open, I also have to go out of town for work tomorrow afternoon and don't have anyone to take the bird that I trust will take care of it like I am!

I've not seen it drink or eat, it has pooped a couple of times and I'm keeping the light off and the box covered so that it feels safe.

Any help/advise/suggestions would be appreciated!!

Just an update - I have taken him to a wildlife rehabilitation facility and he is now safe and sound! They gave me his intake number for me to call and check in on him. :)

Thank you so much for rescuing the injured pigeon, even in the face of angry drivers, and for managing to find immediate care for him!

For a professional, a broken leg is not difficult to set, and he should recover in approximately 3 weeks, after which he should be able to be released.
